Episode 462 The gifts of Freedom

Freedom is such a gift that we sometimes take for granted.

Today, I cherish the fact that I am entirely FREE!

In today’s podcast I also talk about current events.

The bottom line is that I am so grateful for so many things and most importantly my sobriety, being an American, and being able to share my experiences with all of you.

Remember to reach out to your doctor prior to getting sober.

Episode 461 Nicole Pietrandrea Hough Founder and Editor-in-Chief of AFTER Alcohol-Free Magazine

It was great to meet Nicole, she got sober totally differently than I did.

In 2020, upon admitting to herself that alcohol was not serving her or leading to the life she wanted to create, Nicole set out on a journey to figure out what things would look like alcohol-free. After an initially challenging time of change and introspection, Nicole eventually discovered the vibrant and rapidly growing alcohol-free community, both online and in person. This discovery—coupled with the realization that her new AF life held more beauty, depth, and joy than she ever imagined—inspired the creation of AFTER Magazine in 2022. The magazine’s mission is threefold: 1) to support people who might be searching for answers around their drinking and feeling alone, 2) to normalize sobriety and an alcohol-free lifestyle, and 3) to show just how amazing life can be AFTER giving up alcohol.

I am an alcoholic and the way I got sober was in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous, in fact that was really the only way in 2006! I broke up with alcohol for good almost 18 years ago and my life has been absolutely amazing ever since!

I don’t poo-poo people getting sober in other ways. In fact I think that if you stop drinking when you obviously have a problem with alcohol is a good thing.

I hope you enjoy today’s show.

Episode 459- Is America Living in an Alcoholic Family?

Today JF and I talk about the similarities of living in an actual family that is battling addiction and the state of the Nation.

We give you examples on how to navigate these unknown waters. One of which is just getting back to basics and letting GO!

These are tough times and we need to come together rather than pull apart.

We are all living under one Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Being an alcoholic is but a symptom, as JF says.

It’s time for more love and tolerance! And it’s time to get honest with what is working and what isn’t.

We hope you enjoy today’s show.

Episode 457 Courage and Strength with Chaplain and Former Operation Iraqi Freedom Vet Michael Le Buhn

Michael Le buhn

This week is the 4th of July and what better way to celebrate our Country's birthday than by having veteran Michael Le Buhn on the show.  Michael is a chaplain, a veteran, a dad, a son, and a person in recovery. His story brought me to tears a couple of times. Michael is absolutely amazing!

Taking time to think of our freedoms and to say thank you is what being an American is all about.

Chaplain Michael Le Buhn received care from the VA and credits his therapist there for helping him get to the place where he is today.

Michael has so much courage and faith, we all can learn something from his story. I can’t thank him enough for serving our country and showing us that no matter how hard it was for him to reach out for help, he did it!

Michael didn't have a lot of choices after high school and enlisting in the military sounded like the best option. Where he grew up no one really went to college. His story starts in the military but today not only did he go to college but he also got his master’s degree.

Again I can’t thank him enough for coming on BLS.

Episode 456 It Hasn’t Happened Yet

What hasn’t happened yet for you?

I haven’t gone to jail yet, what haven’t you done yet? Think about when you are drinking; all bets are off! Once you ingest alcohol your decision making is impaired and your motor skills don’t react as quickly as they would if you were sober. But we don’t think about that when we pick up a drink.

In my opinion when we pick up a drink all we think about is that we can’t wait to feel the buzz. The warm feelings, the false sense that alcohol gives us. I know it made life more manageable for me. Everything was a little better when I had a drink in my hand during my active alcoholism.

You don’t have to live like this anymore! There is a solution!

God!

Prayer!

Meditation!

Friendship!

Hope!

What is in your hot pink, blinged out toolbox?

I hope you enjoy today’s show!

Episode 455 with Mitch Motivates

MITCH MOTIVATES

Today I spoke to Mitch Motivates. He is an absolute riot! He lives his life one day at a time and loves being sober and helping others.

He was down and out and now he is living a successful life helping others. Mitch was excited to tell me all about his new book, “My Addiction; My Super Power.”

In his story, he talks about going to treatment when he was one week shy of his 19th birthday and how he stayed sober, relapsed, and came back! He has been sober for 16 years and is so grateful. I just loved speaking to him and I hope you do too!

Episode 454: Vulnerability

Feeling a little vulnerable

In today’s episode, we talk about honesty, being transparent when you want to hide, and finding the voice to share with others! When we remove our crutch (for me, alcohol), we can’t mask or remove our feelings. We have to be willing to be vulnerable with ourselves and others. Being honest in every aspect of your life is one of the greatest gifts sobriety offers -- if we accept it.

I hope you enjoy today’s show!
