Episode 452 Are you willing to be Transparent?

In today’s podcast I talk about how transparency and authenticity is at the core of being sober, if you can’t be honest sobriety is almost impossible.

We all have choices and why do we choose the easier way — which for a lot of people is choosing to continue to use and stay in the personal hell of active addiction.

When we are able to find someone that will love us and not judge us we have the chance to really get better!

God is so good and having a relationship with God is of the utmost importance when it comes to living a peaceful and serene life. I don’t believe you find harmony if you don’t find faith.

I traveled to El Salvador in 2013 and it was the most deadly country in the world! Today, in 2024 it is the safest country in the Western Hemisphere! Why?  The President of El Savador contributes his success to God and prayer!

I promise that if you are open to changing and allowing God in your life everything can and will change for you!

Trust and love opens our hearts to the light.

Episode 451: Amberlie Johnson’s husband OD’d twice and he is still alive

Amberlie Johnson’s book cover

Today's story is a testament to love and commitment. This is a very gut wrenching story and will touch anyone’s heart!

Amberlie attributes her strength and determination to God. She has incredible faith.

Amberlie isn’t different from many of us. She fell in love in high school and got married to the man of her dreams. Her husband’s job was hard and physical. Like so many stories we hear he hurt his back, went to the doctor and the doctor prescribed Oxycodone.

What happened after taking the drug is a common story. In an all-too-familiar scenario, he got addicted.

Again, this story is somewhat tough to listen to because Amberlie’s husband did not die, but his life is changed forever.

We all need to realize that what is happening with drugs and alcohol in our country is an epidemic. Here is a story about a real incident that changed these people's lives forever.

Thank you Amberlie for coming on Busy Living Sober.

Life is very challenging these days but what can we do to change? We can’t change anything but ourselves unfortunately. Asking for help is where you can find hope!

Today I talk about my closed doors and how my staring hasn’t changed anything! In fact it brings me back to my pity party! No one ever wants to go to a pity party, including me.

What am I doing to change?

Listen to today’s podcast and find out!

“If you truly want to change your life, you must first be willing to change your mind.” ~Dan Altman

Episode 448: Being Tested

…….

Do you feel like you are being tested all over the place? 2+2 does not equal 4!

I am proud to say that I was a stay-at-home mom — it brought me so much joy and heartache. I gave it 100% and I don’t want to feel ashamed or stigmatized for the fact that I decided for me it was more important to stay home.

We all have to make our own individual decisions and make them with our spouse or partner.

My belief that Harrison Butker was an amazing husband and father speaking to college graduates about the importance of the stay-at-home mom. He had a lot of backlash but let's face it, it had to be said!

Life is hard enough and to think you are judged by whether or not you stay home with your children. I felt that it was a privilege for me to be able to be with my children when they were growing up. It was really hard at times and I didn’t have the money or resources like our neighbors but I did my best. It was my choice and I don’t think I need to feel badly for that choice.

Right and wrong….. You aren’t crazy! It is just all of that Noise…

Here is the link for Kenny Chesney’s song and the lyrics:

Wreckin' balls, downtown construction

Bottles breakin', jukebox buzzin'

Cardboard sign says "The Lord is Comin', Tick, Ticktock"

Rumors turn the mills back home

Parkin' lot kids with the speakers blown

We didn't turn it on but we can't turn it off, off, off

Sometimes I wonder how did we get here

Seems like all we ever hear is

Noise

Yeah we scream, yeah we shout 'til we don't have a voice

In the streets, in the crowds, it ain't nothin' but noise

Drownin' out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy

Just tryna be heard in all this noise

24 hour television gets so loud that no one listens

Sex and money and politicians talk, talk, talk

But there really ain't no conversation

Ain't nothin' left to the imagination

Trapped in our phones and we can't make it stop, stop this

Noise

Yeah we scream, yeah we shout 'til we don't have a voice

In the streets, in the crowds, it ain't nothin' but noise

Drownin' out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy

Just tryna be heard in all this noise

Every room, every house, every shade of noise

All the floors, all the walls, they all shake with noise

We can't sleep, we can't think, can't escape the noise

We can't take the noise, so we just make

Noise

Yeah we scream, yeah we shout 'til we don't have a voice

In the streets, in the crowds, it ain't nothin' but noise

Drownin' out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy

Just tryna be heard in all this noise

All this noise

Can't take the noise

Can't take the noise

Can't stand the noise

Can't take the noise

Episode 447 Happy Memorial Day

Happy memorial day!

Do you know what today’s holiday is about?

Memorial Day is about all of the troops that died while in the line of duty. It is important that we remember them and that they didn’t die in vain. They were and are important to all of us, without them would we have our freedoms? Or what is left of them….

I hope you will take some time today to think of our fallen soldiers and send a thank you!

Episode 446 Shocker

I am shocked!

Happy Wednesday!

After hearing from so many listeners about how great they feel after putting down the drink I thought I would talk about it.

They call it a “pink cloud” in 12 step meetings. What is it and how long does it last?

Life is so nice when you are sober and not ashamed.

Please hold your head high, you deserve it!

Have a happy, happy

Battling addiction since his early twenties, Kurt's story is a testament to committing to recovery. His roles as a Peer Support Specialist and LMSW reflect both personal milestones and professional achievements.

The creation of The Peer Network signifies Kurt's commitment to equitable opportunities for peer support specialists. Supported by his wife Melinda and their daughters, Kurt's story inspires hope for recovery and renewal.
