/Episode 177 with Dr. Julia Basso- Looking at the Alcoholic Brain
I am thrilled to share with everyone my conversation with Dr. Julia C. Basso. Dr Basso holds a PhD in Behavioral and Neural Science from Rutgers University. As a neuroscientist, dancer, and yoga instructor, she is fascinated by the brain's capacity for plasticity and the body's ability to shape the brain. Her research centers around understanding how physical activity and mindfulness practices affect the brain functionally, physiologically, and morphologically. She is currently working at the Addiction Recovery Research Center at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute researching the neurobehavioral factors that help promote and sustain healthy lifestyle choices in individuals with substance use disorders, obesity, and Type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Basso works at The International Quit and Recovery Registry, sponsored by Dr. Warren K. Bickel at the Addiction Recovery Research Center at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech, is a program for people in recovery from alcohol, substances, and other behaviors.
