Episode 223-  Séan McCann and Andrea Aragon -- co-authors of the new book One Good Reason: A Memoir of Addiction and Recovery, Music and Love

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today Andrea and Sean talk about their book. A riveting and original memoir that offers readers a backstage pass to the not-so-dreamy realities of being married to a rock star... and an intimate story about addiction and the road to recovery told in two perspectives, One Good Reason is already a bestseller in Canada, where is was released in Spring 2020 to rave reviews.

Sean McCann is a singer-songwriter and a previous member of iconic multi-million selling band Great Big Sea. Raised in the heavy drinking culture of one of North America’s most notorious party capitals -- St. John’s, Newfoundland -- Séan spent thirty years hiding in plain sight on stage, suppressing the pain of childhood trauma with alcohol and drugs.

At the same time, across the Atlantic Ocean and an international border, Andrea was navigating her own childhood in Minnesota around a Vietnam veteran father struggling with PTSD’s seeping side effects and a depressed, distant mother.  As a preteen she would self-harm as a way to cope with, control, and match the pain which she had no way of articulating or fixing at the time.

Séan and Andrea met in 2002 at an after-party in Colorado, and their relationship was a lot of fun... until it wasn't anymore. In One Good Reason, they offer a shockingly honest and hopeful message about the immeasurable power of honesty, love, commitment, and family.

I hope you find their story relatable and helpful on your journey to recovery.
